Can I join a group without sharing my location?

Yes. Groups see your streak and on-track days, never your places, visits, or money saved. Here’s what a group sees, what it doesn’t, and how sharing works.

Four of us made a group and agreed on three gym visits each. Seeing everyone’s confirmed days on the weekly board kept it fun, and nobody could see where anyone else went. Three of us hit it, and the fourth is already planning a rematch.

Groups are the social side of NoTestudo: a few people working on the same goal, keeping each other going. They’re also built so that joining one never means handing over your map.

What a group sees

Sharing lets members of a group see your daily activity, current streak and confirmed-day totals on its board and leaderboard. Money saved is not shared.1

  • On-track days. A day when every goal was on track: a visit for goals you’re building, a clear day for goals you’re cutting back on.
  • Your streak. Weeks in a row with every goal on target.
  • Group activity. Who joined and who sent invites. It never shows money, places, or visits.

What a group never sees

  • Your places
  • Your visits
  • Your money saved
  • Your location, live or otherwise
Good to know

Joining a group never shares your activity. Sharing is off until you turn it on for a group, and you can turn it off again whenever you like.

How to join

  1. In the app, open Community, then Groups.
  2. Tap Join with a Code and enter the group’s 6-character invite code, or tap Browse Public Groups to find one.
  3. When you’re ready, turn on Share My Activity to appear on the group’s board.

Until you turn sharing on, you’re a member who isn’t on the board. Members don’t see your on-track days or streak.

Friends and location are separate

Friends are added with a code, not your number. If you ever share your location with a friend, that’s its own opt-in, set friend by friend, and health-care places are never shared.

Why the board works without a map

A board of confirmed days is enough to keep each other honest. Nobody needs to know which gym you went to, only that you went. It’s not about shaming anyone. It’s about knowing where you stand.2 See how it fits together on the Groups page.
