Why NoTestudo shows hours and dollars, not points

There’s no score in NoTestudo, and no points. Progress shows up in real units: money saved, time saved and time invested. Here’s why.

I didn’t quit drinking, I just stopped going out Monday to Thursday. My Time saved card shows the hours I used to spend there, and it’s honestly a lot. Weekends are still a work in progress, but nine weeks feels good.

Plenty of habit apps turn your life into a game: points for the gym, a level that goes up, a score that goes down. NoTestudo doesn’t. Progress shows up as the hours and dollars you actually kept, not as some arbitrary score.

The three numbers

  • Money saved estimates what you didn’t spend. Skip the takeout and it adds up. You can also record what you kept when you skip something you’d normally buy.
  • Time saved compares your time with a typical day, so the hours you used to spend somewhere show up as hours kept.
  • Time invested is confirmed time at the places for a goal, like hours at the library or the rec center.
Good to know

Money saved is never shared with friends or groups. It’s your number.

Why not points?

Points measure the game, not your life. A point for the gym means whatever an app decided it means. An hour at the gym means an hour at the gym.

Points also invite grading, and NoTestudo is a mirror, not a judge. There are no points, no scores, no wellness rating and no “failed.” The app congratulates first and never compares you with anyone else.

Reframe

Your first week of visits becomes the starting point, so progress compares you with you.

Honest numbers

Real units only work if they’re honest, so NoTestudo is careful about what it knows:

  • Absent is not zero. A day without tracking is unknown. The app never fills a gap with zero.
  • Estimates say so. Money and time estimates depend on your goal and the tracking and spending information available.
  • Pending is pending. A week in progress shows as in progress until Sunday is over.

What you can celebrate

Small wins count. Clear days, weekly targets, streaks and badges like First Step and Three Clear Days mark real, dated progress. They’re about what happened, not a grade about you.1
